Just finished cycling training in the Spin Room this morning. I had a mental block or dislike or angst (not really sure what to call it) about spinning classes up until very recently. I always thought I wouldn’t be able to keep up in a spin class & used to be afraid of them…give me a treadmill any day and I was fine. I have taken spin classes and depending on the instructor & music, I could take it or leave it.
But with Andrew, it is a whole different kettle of fish. First of all, I know that I need to do this training to get ready for the race, to build up strength & endurance on the bike. But knowing that I will be riding my own bike, outside, is why I think I am starting to get into it…and enjoying the feeling and motions and the way my legs are starting to feel. Andrew talks us through various intervals, hills, different intensities & speeds...seated & sometime standing. The other thing is that there is no escaping…what I mean is that we all have special heart rate monitors and all of our information/stats are posted on a huge screen in the front of the room. So Andrew, and the rest of the team are aware if you are slacking or not working at the optimum level. It is a little scary, but rewarding at the same time to see your name up in lights…to know you are keeping up and riding along with the team. An hour is starting to go by very quickly…it used to drag on & on.
