I woke up at 4:30 this morning to prepare for the morning group ride. It was dark when I awoke and I scrambled to get ready after enjoying a cappuccino and oatmeal. (I even squeezed in enough time to read the depressing news.) When I looked at my watch, I realized that I had ten minutes to get to west 29th and the highway. I threw on my helmet and made it through the apartment door. As I descended, I noticed that my helmet felt different so I made sure it felt secure by seeing if it moved as I tried to shift it with my hands. It seemed fine so I biked up to the meeting point. When I arrived at 5:36 no one was there so I had to carry on solo. I was sure to see my team in the park considering our uniforms are pretty distinctive.
I got in one loop before I had to relieve myself of all the fluid I consumed. I was lucky that the bathroom by the boat club was approaching. After going to the bathroom, I looked into the mirror and noticed my head looking really odd. My helmet seemed higher on my head. As I looked closer, I gasped, "Are you kidding me"?
I could not believe that for the last 45 minutes, I was wearing my helmet backwards. Was I that spaced out or tired? I can't imagine what people thought as I whizzed by. I might have as well worn my underwear on the outside.
After completing my three loops in the most pathetic manner- yes people, my legs are weak and not conditioned- I returned back to Chelsea Piers. Drew and I had a swim lesson and I didn't give myself any moment to contemplate how tired I was. I managed to push myself in the pool although it was probably because I paid someone to push me. Maybe I should pay myself to push myself to bike more. HA- I would be broke and rich at the same time. Brilliant!
Tomorrow is our speedwork day. Let's hope that I can survive that...and not wear my sneakers incorrectly.
