The Metabolife Triathlon Blog
So, I finally talked to my trainer about diet since I am still exhausted all the time. I expected to be tired for a bit, but geez….it has been 5 weeks of training. I figured I should have worked through some “hump” and have some energy high from the increased workouts. But no.
In short, he told me I needed to eat more carbs – specifically, complex carbs. I have sort of eliminated carbs except for getting some sugar from a piece of fruit a day. I did this when I was dieting, but he said that with so much training, I had no energy stores and that it was too hard for my body to use fat for energy. No one is the same, but he suggested starting with a small portion of complex carbs at least 2 times a day and tweak up or down depending on how I felt.
We did our timed two mile run this week. The good news – I finished. I have run two miles before, but there is something different when everyone in training is doing it and we are being timed. I feel like at least half the battle to all of this is in my head. Probably more…
