First swim. Ugh. I hope it isn’t too cliché to say I felt like a fish out of water. My goal was to simply go from one side of the pool to the other – any way possible – for as long as I could. I managed 25 minutes, but gave up on freestyle swimming quickly. I feel like I have been in water my whole life, but I haven’t ever really done laps. I can’t breath. I hate having my face in the water...which, for obvious reasons…could be an issue. I called my friend John, who has done triathlons. Apparently, it just takes getting used to. But, it makes me really aware of how much work is ahead. The swim in a sprint triathlon is ½ mile and in an Olympic distance triathlon it is 0.9 miles. That’s a long way.
